Colour is so important because, like lighting, it affects a mood and feel of a piece and therefore how a viewer interprets the final image.  Often, a ‘flat’ image that comes out of the camera looks lifeless – but this is the intent. The term ‘flat’ means the camera has shot with a profile type that tries to avoid recording too much information into the compressed video file.  Aspects like sharpness, contrast and colour saturation are typically elements which are edited during post-production rather than at the filming stage.
